Please pass the energy!

It has been so long since my last post! I think I am going through a bit of blogging burnout. I have not felt very creative lately, and that makes blogging very difficult. With the weather change and summer sun approaching, I can't help but feel more energized!

My training was going well. Last time I posted I talked about getting my mojo back. Well, the mojo thing kind of came and went. I have struggled the last couple of weeks and am not really feeling all that good. My legs hurt and feel heavy. My energy level is nil. I am not sure what is going on but I do think it is time for a Lupus checkup. Lake Sonoma 50 is this Saturday, and I am not feeling good about it. I will just use this race as a training run for Big Horn and see how it goes. I just recently had some cortisone injected into my toe that was operated on and it doesn't seem to have helped. That is getting me down too. But..... then, as usual, I think about how lucky I am to be who I am and I think to myself, "Thank you , God" for creating me. I am almost embarrassed to even have written the above complaint. My problems are nothing compared to many.

I just read a great book called, REVERSE HEART DISEASE NOW, by Stephen Sinatra. It is written by two cardiologists, ( one is a runner), who tell you how to combine the benefits of modern medicine, over the counter vitamins and supplements, and simple lifestyle changes to have a healthy heart, whether you have acute or chronic disease or just want to prevent cardiovascular disease from developing. It's a great read. I went down and immediately bought and started on some new supplements and I am hoping to feel a difference!

Sorry to hear you're not feeling as jazzed as you'd like. I don't think you're complaining- you just have high standards and expectations for yourself and you've worked hard to reach your goals. I'm happy to have my health, but wish I was a better runner too! Anyway, it sounds like something a week of taper could help.

Various people claim their approach will help reverse heart disease. Dr. Davis uses coronary calcium scans to track disease progression or regression, and has people get their blood sugar under control, increase levels of Vit D, and cut wheat and sugar, among other recommendations. You might find this approach informative too. See www.heartscanblog.blogspot.com or www.trackyourplaque.com. There has been some noise this week about a study showing elite marathoners have more plaque than control patients, and the researchers speculate that chronic inflammation contributes to atherogenesis. It's not just about blood lipids anymore. So maybe when we're not feeling so great, that's a sign we should cut our bodies some slack.

That said, I still hope you are pleasantly surprised at Sonoma.

Kerry read that book and loved it. His "numbers" in the heart testing dept. were not stellar - and you know what great shape HE is in. The program seems to work well. Re: your "low energy" - I have it too today, I'm gonna go get me a massage! xoxo Jen

Hi Johnny, thanks! I didn't realize that you are a chiropractor. My son is in Chiropractic school. You are in a great profession.

Hey Doone,
Yes, I am entered into Miwok now. It will be great to see you too. Suzanna and Florencia enjoyed meeting you at C2M. Sounds like the weather was horrible. Now, I am glad that I didn't enter. See you in May!

Hi Cynthia, thanks for the encouragement! Yes, we have to be thankful for our health. Thanks for the link. I will check it out. There is so much information out there and sometimes it gets so confusing.

Keep on blogging girl! You are too funny to quit (not that you said you were going to quit)! I got burnt out a bit too, but it's like anything, comes and goes. I'm sure you'll get over the hump and be a blogging fool in no time. :)

I think it's normal to get burnt out on blogging (esp. that all FB-ing and twitting), and normal to go through cycles of energy. We wish we wouldn't, but we do. And thus we struggle to get our buties out for a run, and then on top of it to perform on those runs. Sometimes you read someone's blog and how totally excited they are all the time, and feel even worse - what are they, not human? I bet they just don't write when they are down:) Giddy up.

I too have autoimmune disease issues (Polymyositis) and was/am an ultrarunner. I am doing very well considering my condition, but struggle to differentiate between limitations of my disease and limitations of my mind/body. Sometimes I can't tell whether I am fatigued because of training or whether I need to pay better attention to my disease. Go get 'em!

I hope you get your mojo back soon! It can get discouraging when you want to do/prepare for things (races) but feel like you can't quite get to it. Try to keep your chin up! You are an inspiration!

Looks like all that worrying about energy was just you saving it up for the race. You did great! Congratulations!
