Diet vs Exercise

I am sitting here waiting to go for a nice 15 mile run on this cold, clear morning. I am excited, but I am hesitant because of a fat furry baby that lies at my feet. Jada, our new Aussie puppy, is my pride and joy. I feel like a first time Mom, and I don't want to leave her. I want to play with her all day, kiss her, and teach her the ways of the world. Sounds corny, I know, but I just can't help it. Having a new baby in the house definitely affects my training these days. Instead of long runs, they are short and fast! I don't want to leave her for too long. Oh, well, I am off for a run!

This video was an eye-opener for me. I am sure you will feel the same way. It clearly illustrates how futile it is to try and exercise away dietary slip-ups. It's easy to put away hundreds, or even thousands of calories in just a few minutes, but it takes hours of very intense exercise to burn off a fraction of that. The idea that you can "undo" a gluttonous meal with a trip to the gym or a nice run, keeps many people from reaching their goals. I certainly will be more aware of what I eat now. Since I have begun eating gluten "less", I haven't had a pizza. Sometimes I miss having one, but I am one of those people who can eat five or six big pieces without a problem. Wow, isn't that scary! I guess it is best for someone like me to just avoid eating that. I really have a problem monitoring the amount of food I put in my mouth. I need to practice MODERATION. Get out the door and burn some calories! Remember: You can never out-train a bad diet!

Kelly that is one gorgeous little pup Jada you have there. I feel exactly the same way about my dogs when I go out for a run or leave the house. Can't wait to see more pictures and hear more stories as she grows up. She is going to be one great little running dog.

Your puppy is so cute! I wouldn't want to leave her either. That video was very interesting. I wish everything could be based on exercise because I love training. Unfortunately, I love food too. I'm trying to wean myself from processed foods. It's not hard, but it does take more planning.

Love the puppy and I wouldn't want to leave her as well.

So funny to see that video as I had pizza for the 1st time today in 2 months. I was craving it all week and my son wanted it for his birthday so who was I to refuse! ;-). I try and compensate by doing a long run before hand, going somewhere that has small pieces of pizza and filling 1/2 my plate with salad. I too am on a glueten free kick as well as diary free so I was a true rebel today. After seeing that video though, I will behave myself again and stick to my staples that never do me wrong.

Glad I found your blog as it looks very interesting.

Hey Sue, congrats on your amazing race at Lost Soul. You had a great run there. Way to go! Are you going to try and qualify for the 24 hour again?

Hey Chris and Amy, thanks for stopping by my blog. Diet is a fun topic and getting healthy is a great reward. Good luck on cutting out processed food!

Hey Kim, thanks for checking out my blog. I look forward to reading yours as well. How funny about the pizza. That video really made me realize how much pizza I can eat. I can put away HUGE amounts of food and it is hard to limit myself. I am sold on gluten free. I limit my dairy too, but I do like cream in my coffee and greek yogurt now and then. Oh, and cheese!! See what I mean? I am a pig!

Gorgeous puppy! I have cats and wish I could take them out for a run sometimes, but they are only sprinters! :)

Good video, but why do they have to pick on "cardio"? As if weight lifting or sprinting was any better (which many people believe). Still, you hardly look like you need to change your eating habits. Glad to hear gluten free is working out for you. I'm rather inconsistent unfortunately.

For me, diet is more effective than exercise. :)
